Country Type
Burlington offers highly regarded Basalt grazing
with significant carrying capacity suitable for
breeding and backgrounding. The soil types include
productive black basalt soils predominately along
the Fossilbrook Creek frontage and the Northeastern
end of the property. Black soil frontage encompasses both the Saltwater Creek and Lynd
River. Large areas of red basalt country running into open granite ridges and steeper granite hills make up the western and southern boundaries.
A natural boundary is formed along generally uncrossable barriers with Anglesey and Mount Surprise Stations.
Grasses include Black Spear, Bluegrass, Urachloa,
Golden Beard, Indian Couch, Panic, Forest Mitchell and Kangaroo Grass. Large bodies of Secca and Verano Stylos are widely interspersed throughout the pasture. Areas of grader grass do exist on Burlington however these have been
greatly reduced over recent years through grazing
management.
Burlington has had an above average wet season in
2024 enhancing the substantial volume of quality herbages and grasses.
Tree vegetation species include Bloodwood, Ironbark,
Box, Ti-Tree, Quinine, Ironwood, Pear Tree and Bread
Fruit.
Water
Burlington has 5 major creek systems that intersect the property alongside the Lynd River. There is approximately 6.5 kilometres of double frontage to the Lynd, 14 kilometres of double frontage to Fossilbrook Creek, 12 kilometres of double frontage to Saltwater Creek, 17 kilometres of double
frontage to Black Fellow Creek, 13 kilometres of double frontage to Fulford Creek and 9 kilometres of double frontage to Dickson Creek. Numerous smaller systems support these creeks and supply seasonal
watering points across the property
Burlington also has 14 dams and 9 bores connected to 11 troughs. Six bores are less than 4 years old and are equipped with new solar electric Grundfos, Tu Horse and Lorentz submersibles. All bores are in working order. The property has large dams with good catchments. The main dams all have squares erected for holding cattle, which facilitates ease of mustering and cattle handling.
Water Allocation
144 MGL water licence
Irrigation
There is a 144 mega litre water licence from Fossilbrook creek which enhances the ability to successfully grow crops. Currently a small section of multi species pasture is being irrigated via 2 x K-Lines 60m long with 4 sprinklers each. This is serviced by a Grundfos multi stage pump from Fossilbrook creek.
There is an existing Mango plantation of approximately 20 acres with an additional 100 acres of cleared land around the plantation.
Rainfall
Yearly average 783mm or 31 inches – Derived from 60 years of rainfall records recorded on Burlington Station.
Fencing
Burlington is divided into 18 main paddocks plus 5 holding paddocks with an extensive laneway system joining 2 of the 3 sets of cattle yards. Internal and external fencing is predominately 3 barb and steel
picket construction in good order. 82 kilometres of new fencing has been erected in the last 3 years.
Approximately 20 kilometres on the Western and Southern portion of the property is un-fenced natural boundary, with very little stock movement either way from or into Burlington.
The fences are good quality three and four barb wire fencing, majority in very good condition. Tree regrowth has been maintained along fence line with Grasslands and machine usage. All major Dams are fenced with squares.
