Country Type
Rocky Springs boasts an excellent combination of both Forrest and Basalt country, characterised by predominantly flat to gently undulating Basalt terrain featuring fertile creek flats and basalt ridges.
The property showcases a variety of grasses, including Seca & Verano Stylo’s, Wynna Cassia, Sabi Grasses (Improved Urochloa), and an impressive abundance of legumes. The property has had significant pasture improvement since the 1980’s with native grasses fully established. There has also been Leucaena planted since 2010 on approximately 250 acres. Leucaena is utilised to provide a good protein source through winter months. The success of the Leucaena utilisation suggests the potential for further developing the property into lucrative fattening or backgrounding proposition.
Rocky Springs is interspersed with predominately Ironbark, Bloodwood, Morton Bay Ash, Apple and Whitewood.
Water
Rocky Springs is an exceptionally well-watered property with both below ground and surface water. The property is adorned with numerous running springs, Elizabeth Creek, and a spring-fed watercourse with multiple substantial water holes that traverses the landscape. Water reticulation around the property is complemented by electric and solar bores and a well-developed trough system.
Considerable enhancements have been made to the water infrastructure, including the installation of 3 kms of new 62mm poly pipe, the addition of new troughs, and the interconnection of bores to maximise water efficiency. A newly positioned 50,000-gallon roofed poly-lined tank at a higher elevation facilitates a gravity-fed water supply throughout Rocky Springs. At the homestead, a new 10,000-gallon poly tank has been set up to collect rainwater.
Rocky Springs features 30 troughs, 11 tanks, 2 dams, and numerous waterholes dispersed across its expanse. In conjunction with the permanent running springs, there are 8 operational bores. Two of these bores are powered by mains electricity, while three utilise solar power to feed a tank and trough system. Prior to the installation of two new solar pumps, 5 bores were refurbished. Although there are several windmills on the property, they are no longer in use due to the advanced bore water infrastructure.
